Search Engine Optimization Tips and Tricks
Covering all tips and tricks for all Search Engines (SE) is almost impossible. Instead, I will list strategies that will work well with most SE and factors that affect the Page Rank (PR) of a site. The PR of a site is the importance that a search engine gives to a site based on complex algorithms that are unique to every particular one.
On-page Criteria
This is a small, but vital factor that impacts the PR for most sites. The focus here is on keywords that are garnered with great research. Keywords are those words that most surfers will use on a Search Engine while hunting for sites to visit.
Page Title
Keywords must compulsorily be included in the Title of your content and also in the <TITLE> tag.
Place the keyword right at the beginning of the title.
Shorter is sweeter, about 3-6 words in a Title is ideal.
A longer key phrase must be used together, for example, if your keyword is Search Engine Optimization Tips and Tricks then avoid Tips and Tricks to Optimize Your Site for Search Engines.
People will read the title, so keep it interesting. Avoid titles like Niche Marketing for a Niche Market and other Niche Markets because this may get you to the top of SE but stickiness is lost in the bargain.
Heading
<H1> and <H2> headings are often ignored, because of their large size. These headings are difficult to use on some pages, but try using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to overcome this problem. Avoid underhand measures like {display: none}, which may get you kicked out of Search Engine Rankings (SERP).
Thumb rule is to use the most essential keywords in the headings without compromising its readability.
Text
Use a keyword-rich body text that is a pleasure to read. One trick is to format the keywords in bold or italics, keep the keywords together, and ensure the keywords are repeated at least 3 or 4 times in 100 words of text.
META tags
People do not normally focus on tags these days, especially the keyword tag. However, the description tag is still useful if you wish to target lesser known Search Engines, like FAST.
Off-page criteria
As always, strive for a good site, with great content and a pretty look-and-feel. These attract more visitors, more links, and is the number One reason that boosts popularity.
Link popularity
Without this, your site will never reach the Google Top 10. So exchange reciprocal and non-reciprocal links, write newsletters, articles, etc. Ensure your the link text contains your most important keyword.
Click popularity
Not nearly as important as link popularity so you can safely ignore this for now.
In summary, you can jack up the PR of your site if you focus on links exchange and submission along with SEO (Search Engine Optimized) content. Use the other strategies to gain an advantage over your competitors and your site is bound to get a high listing on most search engines.
